Schwa take poems by a range of poets and sets them to intelligent, emotive music. Interspersed with the songs: readings from tree folklore, botany, as well as compelling accounts of tree activism from all over the world. Hope of a Tree; inspired by Richard Powers pulitzer prize winning, The Overstory, is about the resilience of nature in spite of what humans continue to do to it, and about hope - despite the odds.
Using the power of poetry to educate people about dementia. Local poet Catherine Scott is working with East Riding secondary schools around the theme of dementia. Young people will perform their poetry at library reminiscence sessions, for those living with dementia and their carers. A project we are excited to be piloting in the East Riding.
