Amit Dhand was brought up in his parents’ convenience store in Bradford which also doubled a video rental library. It was here, secretly watching thrillers way outside of his age-range where Amit became obsessed with stories. Weekly trips to the library saw him become a huge fan of Enid Blyton with her "Famous Five" and "Secret Seven" series but again unbeknown to his parents, Amit was also borrowing Stephen King and reading horror novels into the early hours. He eventually had to confess his secret after reading "Silence of the Lambs" and was unable to sleep for weeks.
A love affair with drama and darkness was born, specifically how literature could so vividly thrill, frighten or engage. Amit wanted to do all three.
Amit still lives in Bradford where he divides his time between pharmacy and late-night thriller writing and remains fascinated by people, identity and what it means to be British in a time where identity seems up for grabs.
