Val McDermid is a celebrated, best-selling Scottish author. Once fired by her agent for 'not making him enough money', she has had the last laugh with more than 15 million copies of her novels sold worldwide. Accepted at St Hilda’s College, Oxford at 17 to read English, she was the youngest undergraduate to have ever been taken on and the first from a Scottish state school. Val is best known for her three popular series following journalist Lindsay Gordon, private investigator Kate Brannigan, and psychologist Tony Hill.
